Confession…I am an avid people watcher. I am constantly surprised by what people will do in public. One thing we are all guilty of is examining our own reflections, whether it is in a mirror or a window, we all do it. The worst is when you are out somewhere with someone and you catch them staring at something, then you realize the entire time you have been chatting they have been checking themselves out in a mirror across the room! We are all a little vain!
The problem is that we are all so focused on our outward appearance we forget that people can also view our character. Those around us can tell if we are positive or negative, honest or dishonest, loyal or flakey! What are your conversations, comments, body language, and facial expressions revealing about you? These things are revealed especially in our work environments. Have you ever noticed how easy it is to catch a cold when you work closely with people? Our attitudes can be just as contagious! Our negativity can become poison to those around us and even cause us to lose our jobs! This is not only true in work but faith as well!
“Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?–unless indeed you are disqualified.” 2 Corinthians 13:5
Paul encourages believers to check out their lives to see if they are truly living out their faith with more than just lip service! Anyone can say they are a Christian but what does their life say about them? Big Tent Revival had a song years ago that asked…”If loving God were a crime, would you be an outlaw?” Basically if there were a CSI investigation of your faith would their be enough evidence to convict you? Each of us needs to take inventory and re-evaluate our lives to see what type of life we are living. If you are professing christianity than live it out! I know this is not an easy thing to do, which is why we have the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will empower you and I to live as we should, if we will only yield control to God!
An examination is the only way we can know if there is a need for change in our lives. Listen to your conversations, what message are you sending? Are you poison or life to those around you? I am asking myself these questions too! May our faith be lived out before the world in such a way that the lost might come to know Jesus!
